hello
Here I am in Poole Library, England.
I used to live in Pispala, many moons ago, and have worked in an English pub in Tampere, and have taught Einglish in various local establishments. For example, TTKK, Sampola, Hauho, Vammala, and many more.
I miss that lovely sauna at Rauhaniemei, and used to dip into the ice hole, even in -15oC; did I really do that. Now I only swim in the sea (I live very near it) in July and August. I have become a whimp!!
Nowadays, I am working with adults with learning difficulties, but only as a relief worker, which suits me fine, as I can get really involved with our service users (the latest politically correct words for our clients), but don't have to do lots of paer work.
Football (Derby County (out of the doldrums at last!) and blues, rock n roll, are my big loves, as has always been the case. As I am at the library, I am being told that my time has run out, and so an abrupt bye bye.

Dear Poole Pirate The Twitcher
lovely to get a message from you. I'm happy that you finally found this site and I hope you will continue doing so in the future, too.
I'm looking forward to getting new messages from you.
Cheers
Ritva
PS. Rauhanniemi sauna + the dips (4 of them for me per visit) into the icy water are ever so lovely. I found that activity again after 15!! years.

hello again from the Poole Pirate. This message will be very brief, as it is not clear to me how to send it, which I am finding very annoying! It is Easter, and I am hoping to get some Easter Eggs, but am not at all optimistic! I had planned afew longer trips by car but there is a little problem (I hope!), with the sparking plugs, and therefore my trips will be short, perhaps some cliff walks. My lounge is being redecorated, and soon it will be the turn of the kitchen and small toilet. Yes, I am using the Passive, it is not me that is doing it, and I am a little bit ashamed, but only a litle bit. We have had yet another relatively easy winter and Spring is well advanced. Have a lovely Easter everybody and enjoy your "Mammi". I used to enjoy that dish.

Hi everybody!
It's Easter still - and the weather has been - and still is gorgeous: sunshine and again sunshine.
As to Easter eggs, we all had some chocolate ones which were well appreciated. The kids got some from the 'witch' - they found those chocolate eggs under their beds one morning - and that seemed to give "the touch" to their Easter. In addition to that some winter-fishing on the ice, bobsledding down the slope and good meals.
It was my turn to be ill, and I spent my time sleeping, reading and getting up for brief intervals when it was meal-time. Enjoyable!! (very much so, if you had to be ill anyway!)
By the way, after many a year, we had some 'mämmi' - and it was ever so good! (made by Aallon leipomo in Tampere).
Take care!
Ritva
PS. This had so much about Easter that I'm going to publish this and Poole Pirate's message on This and that forum, too.

Hi Folks,
Greetings from Poole, England.
I am in the library catching up on my e-mails.
We have had some very cold weather (for us!), but now it is +8oC, and sunny.
I try to feed the small birds in the garden at this time of year, but the feeder is normally taken over by Grey Squirrels and fat Wood Pigeons. The feeder is supposed to be "Squirrel Proof", but they are very clever, and will not be beaten. The small birds e.g Tits, Chaffinches, Greenfinches, Dunnocks, Robins, etc etc., do get a look in from time to time.
I stiil have quite a few contacts in Finland, and I can confirm this when I see the Xmas carsd I have received form there.
Ritva P. sends me "M.M.M." every year, and I subscribe to "Books From Finland". I enjoy both of these publications very much. I belong to the London based Finnish Guild too, and so I am pretty well up with what is happening there in Suomi.
Oh dear the library is about to close.....half day New Year's Eve.
Happy New Year to you all!
the Poole Pirate.

hi folks,
We have not had any rain for weeks and weeks.
This could be a big problem in the summer, unless we get lote of rain this spring.
We do not treat water as a vital commodity. We use it wastefully for too many baths/showers/ car cleaning, golf courses, toilet flushing, washing machines etc etc. Just like pollution and the resulting global warming, we are aware, but not enough is being done. We are all horribly selfish! DISCUSS!
MEANWHILE dERBY cOUNTY HAVE JUST SACKED THEIR MANAGER AFTER A TERRIBLE RUN OF RESULTS.
all the best folks,
Martin the Poole Pirate

Hi folks, A week or so ago, I went to an event in a prehistoric mudhouse, like a huge wigwam with a large wood fire in the middle, and the smoke went out of a hole in the top. It was a freezing cold evening, and we sat on benches in circles around the fire. The atmosphere was great, and after a little kantele playing some stories from "Kalevala" were told, in English, quite brilliantly, just the one man but he knew the stories by heart and was a good performer. There were some Finnish people there, even in Cranborne, a small village in rural Dorset.
It was a part of a Dorset story telling week.
A good experience.
All the Best,
Martin
P.S. Derby County are flirting with relegation!!
