It is not very easy to learn English after many years. I try to better my English by reading English books and magazines. Agatha Christies books are so interesting that I want to go on even if I don't understand every word. When I see some unknown word many times, I check the right meaning in the dictionary. It is nice to notice that I have guessed it right.
Speaking English is difficult because I don't remember the words I want to use quickly enough.
Sometimes when I am pole-walking by myself I make English sentences in my mind and check some words at home.
I hope that the course I'm attending at the moment will make my English better and enlarge my vocabulary.
Best regards
Elisa

February 14, 2005 Dear Elisa
Thank you so much for your interesting message.
How well you put it !
In fact, when brushing up your English the way you do it , you apply many principles that language learning experts consider important in language learning.
For example: 1) You constantly revise your English. And revision it the mother of learning - and revision is the grandmother of language learning! However, it’s not boringly repetitive because you revise the language in many different ways.
2) You link the language to your own life and experiences by making your own sentences with it. Thus, you express YOURSELF in English. This also helps you to learn and memorize new words better.
3) You combine movement to learning when doing pole-walking simultaneously. That’s good for all of us and particularly, for kinaesthetic learners.
4) You study in a relaxed atmosphere. Fresh air also improves your brain functions.
Cheerio! Ritva
